Starting Together:
Key Details & Answers

How It Works

Here’s a little guide to my process, so you’ll know what’s ahead if we decide to work together:

1. Send an Enquiry

Start by completing the contact form here, and let us know a few times you might be available for a brief introductory chat.

2. Introductory Call

My assistant or I will reach out to schedule a 15-20 minute call where we can discuss your needs, answer any initial questions and see if I’m the right fit for your journey.

3. Starting Together

If we choose to work together, I’ll send over a welcome pack with all the information you’ll need to get started. We’ll go over the paperwork in your first session to make sure it’s all clear.

4. Ongoing Support

You’ll receive appointment confirmations, payment instructions and receipts automatically. My approach is flexible, so we can adapt our session times as needed within my availability.

“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”

Helpful Details

  • For many of my clients, life can be full and unpredictable, so I aim to offer a scheduling process that balances flexibility with structure. I intentionally work with a small caseload of clients, giving me space to be flexible with scheduling. We will usually plan one or two sessions ahead, and I’ll give you as much notice as possible about any planned breaks in my schedule.

I operate a 48 hour rescheduling and cancellation policy, which means that I will not charge any fee if you give notice of 48 hours or more to cancel.

If you need to reschedule, I will try to offer a suitable time before Friday of the same week, however if I am unable to, I ask for the full fee to be paid.

  • For many clients, discretion is a vital part of feeling safe and supported in therapy. Confidentiality is not only an ethical requirement for psychologists, it is foundational to the process of therapy. I take your privacy very seriously, within the limits of the law. In rare cases, such as responding to a court order or handling an emergency, I may be legally required to involve others in your care. We’ll discuss these circumstances openly when we begin our work together. I’m deeply honoured by the trust my clients place in me, and I understand the importance of discretion, especially for those in fields like journalism, medicine, the creative arts, and business.

  • For many, online therapy creates a special kind of retreat — a comforting space where you can feel grounded, at ease, and completely yourself. Whether you’re curled up on your favourite couch, your pet close by, or enjoying a freshly brewed coffee, the familiarity of home can deepen the experience.

Together, we can establish a “Reflection Space” that becomes a valuable part of your routine. This is a spot you can revisit between sessions, a place where you may reflect on insights, journal, practice techniques we’ve talked about , or reconnect with what we’re working on together.

Online sessions save your precious time and energy. They also allow for flexibility if you’re abroad or frequently travelling. Based on Australia’s east coast, I use an automated scheduling system to help us coordinate across time zones. I’ll confirm your location before our first session to ensure I meet all local legal and professional requirements for the country you’re in.

Private Health Insurance (Australian clients only)

Some health insurance policies provide rebates for counselling or psychological therapy depending on the policy. Please check with your insurance company as to what cover you may be eligible for.

Medicare Rebates (Australian clients only)

Under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (Better Access), Medicare rebates are available to clients with an assessed mental illness. Medicare rebates are accessed with a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from a medical practitioner, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. The rebate is limited to 10 sessions per calendar year and only available with a valid referral. Please note the maximum number of sessions per referral is 6 and rebates will not be given beyond the number stated on the referral. Online and in person sessions are permitted. The current Medicare rebate is $96.65; so you will still have an out of pocket cost.

NDIS Funding (Australian clients only)

If you or your child has NDIS funding for psychology/ therapy services, you may be able to use NDIS funds depending on your approved plan. Please confirm that your funding is self managed or plan managed. NDIS recipients that are agency managed are unfortunately not able to use their funding for my services.

Please be aware that using third-party partial or full payment for services has some impact on your privacy. We can discuss this during your introductory call or intake appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Choosing between therapy, coaching, and strategy development depends on where you are and what you need most. Therapy provides a safe space to explore emotions, heal from past experiences, and build self-awareness. It’s ideal if you're feeling weighed down by personal challenges or are seeking healing and inner clarity. Coaching is more action-oriented, perfect for anyone ready to focus on growth, resilience, and empowerment in a particular area of their life (such as parenting, choosing to homeschool, embracing your body or looking at career goals). Finally, strategy development is a focused, hands-on approach for creating clear, structured steps to manage a specific change (like devising a holistic pathway to support your neurodiverse child, or prioritising the many ways you can create a simpler, better, and more resilient life). Each path is unique, and together, we can discuss which will be the best fit for you right now.

  • The best way to know is to start with a conversation. I encourage you to reach out for a brief consultation or to ask any specific questions that could help you decide. The right fit is essential to your progress, and I’m here to help you find what feels best for you.

  • Choosing the right coach or therapist is essential for feeling comfortable and supported. Look for someone who offers a safe, non-judgmental space and shows empathy and genuine interest in your well-being. Find someone who has experience working with the issues that matter most to you. When looking for a therapist to work with, ask questions about the following:

    • Is the therapist registered and accredited with a recognised professional organisation for psychologists or psychotherapists?

    • Is the therapist licensed or registered with their local licensing board?

    • Does the therapist have specific qualifications in counselling or psychotherapy?

    • Does the therapist have at least monthly clinical supervision?

    • Does the therapist participate in continued professional development?

    • Has the therapist participated significantly in his or her own counselling or psychotherapy?

    • What is the therapist’s theoretical approach and philosophy?

    • How long has the therapist been in practice?

    • Does the therapist have experience in the issues that you are going to them for?

    • How does the therapist ensure compliance with ethical obligations including client confidentiality?

  • It might surprise you to learn that many health professionals are not required to undergo their own therapy as part of their training or ongoing licensing. While training and life experience are wonderful assets to therapists, those who have experienced their own in-depth therapy usually have a deeper understanding of themselves, the therapeutic process and what it feels like to be a client. This can enhance their empathy, insight, and ability to guide you compassionately through your journey.

  • The first session is typically an introduction where we’ll explore your goals, concerns, current life circumstances and past experiences that may be relevant. This is also a chance for you to ask questions, get a feel for the process, and decide if you feel comfortable with me as your therapist or coach.

  • This is a complex question, and one that I welcome from clients. For deeper, long-standing patterns, effective therapy is rarely a quick fix. Instead, it’s often a gradual journey focused on building skills and self-awareness over time. Coaching, on the other hand, can be helpful if you’re already feeling well and want to develop a new skill or focus on growth in a specific area—such as learning how to better support your child or teen.

  • No referral is needed to book a session with me unless you’re in Australia and hope to claim a rebate from Medicare for some of your appointments. You’re welcome to reach out directly whenever you feel ready to start.

  • Paying out-of-pocket offers greater flexibility, privacy, and control over your therapy process. It allows us to focus on what truly matters to you without the limitations that can come with external funding criteria. Let me know if you would like to talk about this further.
